How does your computer manage its memory? On the morning of October 21, 2025, students got a front-row seat to this essential process in a dynamic bilingual open class!

The College of Computer Science and Communication Engineering hosted a demonstration open course on Operating Systems (Bilingual) in Classroom 106 of the Computer Science Building. Designed for Year 2023 undergraduates majoring in Computer Science and Technology, the session was led by the award-winning Associate Professor Niu Dejiao – recipient of the university’s Teaching Competition Special Prize and the Second Prize in the 5th Jiangsu Provincial Teaching Innovation Contest for College Teachers. The class also attracted many young faculty members for observation and exchange.

Focusing on Chapter 5: Memory Management, Professor Niu skillfully delivered the lecture bilingually, breaking down core concepts like address relocation and memory expansion, while guiding students through partition and paged memory management techniques. Beyond pure knowledge transfer, the class aimed to cultivate a systems-thinking mindset: by explaining hierarchical abstraction, students were encouraged to see the essence behind algorithms; by comparing software policies with hardware mechanisms, they gained deeper insight into the philosophy of hardware-software co-design. The engaging and logically structured session kept students focused and actively participating, showcasing the vitality of a high-quality bilingual classroom.

This demonstration class is a key part of the college’s effort to promote teaching innovation and faculty development. It highlighted effective teaching methodologies, providing a valuable model and discussion point for young educators. The college will continue to build platforms for teaching exchange, deepen educational reform, and enhance both curriculum quality and the cultivation of future computing professionals.
