MAJOR OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

In 1978, Zhenjiang Agricultural Machinery College (the predecessor of Jiangsu University) established a preparatory group for computer development, and enrolled electronic teachers in September of the same year. Computer teaching and Research Office was established in 1979. In 1984, the Department of information engineering was established to recruit undergraduates majoring in computer and application. In 1985, it began to recruit postgraduates majoring in computer application (jointly with East China Institute of Technology). In 1990, it was granted the right to confer master's degree in computer application. In 2000, the major of computer and application was renamed as the major of computer science and technology. In 2003, the major was approved as a brand major and a specialty with Jiangsu characteristics. In 2005, it was granted the right to confer doctor's degree in computer application technology and master's degree in computer science and technology. In 2012, the major became a key construction major in Jiangsu Province. In 2014, it was approved as a postdoctoral research station of computer science and technology. The discipline of computer science and technology was approved to be the first level key discipline of Jiangsu Province in 2016 and the first level discipline doctor's degree granting right in 2017, and won the B-level in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation (tied for the 48th place). The major has cultivated 31 graduates, with more than 2000 graduates.


In the past three years, the employment rate of graduates has been at the top. Graduates can go to enterprises and institutions, government departments, scientific research departments and institutions of higher learning to engage in the application, development, research and teaching of computer software and hardware. They can also apply for postgraduate education in computer science.
