  • Discipline overview and research directions

Information and communication engineering consists of two secondary disciplines:Communication and information system and Signal and information processing, which are widely applied in industry, algriculture, biology, medical treatment, aerospace, military and services, the main research subjects include information acquisition, storage, transmission, processing and application, as well as the research, analysis, design, development, maintenace, testing, integration and application associated with the information, communication equipment and system. Information and communication engineering, on the one hand, focuses on information transmission and exchange research which covers the telecommunications, broadcasting, television, navigation, telemetry, remote control and the internet in national economy and national defense applications, the composition principle, architecture, functional association, application protocol, performance evaluation of all sorts of information, communication neworks and systems are the main sonsituent of current study; on the other hand, signal and information processing takes the central part of the reasearch which is further studid in each section of the information acquisition, transformation, storage, transmission application etc. along with the algorithms, mechanism, implementation, performance evaluation, system application for various forms of signal and information processing.

The Information and Communication Engineeering of Jiangsu University is prominently featured in the next generation of mobile communication, molecular communication, visible light communication, optical communication, radar signal processing, wireless communication signal process, electromagnetic detection and so on. The research carried out is at a high level both domestically and internationally, and retain a pole position in province, amoug which, relevant research achivements have been published in the top international journals multiple times, reaching to advanced level in the world. The main research directions of the subject are detailed as follows:

1. The state-of-art wireless communication technology

The forthcoming wireless communication techonology needs to provide high-speed, reliable and individualized data transmission services. This research direction is closely integrated with trend of broadband wireless communication networks, research fields including visible light communication, large-scale MIMO, intelligent reflector assisted communication and broadband high-efficiency power amplifiers feature the theory and system of broadband wireless communication.

    2.Molecular Communication and Nano IoT

Thanks to the rapid development of nanotechnology and synthetic biology, the nano-network based on bio-inspired nano-mechine will be widely adopted in health care, environmental monitoring, material synthesis etc., molecular communication technology is one of the most feasible communication technologies to realize nano-network. This research direction mainly focuses on the theoretical level of molecular communication channel modeling, muti-user molecular communication, muti-target locating and tracking technology, and is dedicated to produce specific applications with under the cooperation between disciplines.

    3.Optical Communication and Photonic Devices

This research direction put emphasis on optical fiber communication, optical wireless transmission, high-spped optical access technology and integrated optical waveguide and so on; further research has been conducted aiming at all-optical communication system along with micro-photonic devices design which is based on the cutting edge of frontier topological phontonics and non-Hermitian optics theory, providing new solution to the design of traditional photonic devices.

    4.Future network theory and technology

Based on the new generation internet architecture represented by ICN, the theoretical research is carred out in the direction of network modeling, performance optimazation, security and privacy protection , ICN and IP interconnection, which intimates further work on experimental nodes development and test network construction, accelerate the industrialization of the forthcoming network technology.

5.Information Intelligent processing and Integration Technology

The nondestructive detection of Microwave/millimeter wave/terahertz, multi-target complex image processing, information extraction and intelligent algorithms constitute the major part of this direction. Taking the nondestructive detection of wheat, rice and other cereals and vegetables as the application background, research have been conducted on imaging analysis and quality inspection of targeted crops based on microwave/terahertz/infrared multispectral technology, Innovative platform with complete functions and outstanding features has been establishd from the information collection and detection, information, processing and analysis to the information trasmission and application.

  • Training objectives

1. the international students should possess the consciousness, knowledge, atttude and skills to tolerate, recognize and adapt to cultural diversity, and spontaneously paticipate in activites to promote mutual respect, understanding and solidarity between different nationalities societies and countries.

2. The degree holder should lay a solid theoretical foundation in information and communication engineering, and master the relevant expertise systematically and proficiently; hone the ability of research, analyze and solve technical problems independently. In addition, a better insight of the upcoming technologies and development trend in terms of the communication systems, equipment and network is required as well as a good command of both reading and writin English scientfic documents and papers.

  • Training modes and the duration of study

The basic educational system is 3 years, no more than 5 years, graduating in advance is not allowed in principle.

     Training modes

Postgraduate training implements the instructor responsibility system, the steering group responsibility system under the guidance of instrucor is encouraged, either way can provide instrutions through out the process of postgraduate training. Instructor(steering goup) is not only in charge of the collation of postgraduate training mode, giving instructions on scientific research, professional practice and thesis, but also responsible for guiding supervising and demostrating the moral qualities and academic ethics of postgraduates.

  • Credit requirements

The total credits of the course shall be no less than 20 credits, including no less than 14 credits for degree courses and no less than 6 credits for elective courses.

  • Practice credit requirements

1. Academic activities (2 credits)

Postgraduates must paticipate in academic seminars, reports forums hosted by domestic or regne eminent experts and scholars which should be no less than 10 times in total, academic report is required after each paticipation. Postgraduates who present academic paper or give presentations orally at international conferences or national advanced academic conferences are considered qualified for their academic activites. The specific requirements are determined by each discipline and assessed by the relevent falcuty or instructor.

2. Literature reading (2 credits)

A guidebook of classic literatures should be collated and summerized for postgraduates, and reading requirments include a certain number of literature must be specified coresponding to each discipline. The abilities of studying academic literature and autonomous learing should be well fostered. Note that literatural reading is evaluated and documented by the instructor before the dissertation proposal, which will be banned from those who fail the literature reading.

3. Seminar (1 credit each time)

Postgraduates must paticipate in public literature research and exchanges, progress reports and seminar reports within the scope of the discipline which should be no less than 2 times, interdisciplinary discussion is encouraged. Each seminar is reviewed and confirmed by the instructor.

4. Practice

Academic postgraduates (except part-time students) must paticipate in the practice session which generally lasts at least one month including including teaching practice, clinical practice, production practice and social investigation etc..

  • Dissertation and degree requirements
